Unlocking Opportunities: A Recap of Underserved Business Month (UBM)

Yesterday's event marked a significant milestone in the journey of underserved businesses, as Equitable Development Action (EDA) and I Am My'My Jay joined forces to host a dynamic kickoff event at the Minnesota State Capitol. With over 50 attendees, panelists, and vendors in attendance, the event buzzed with energy and enthusiasm as we delved into crucial topics impacting underserved entrepreneurs. From access to capital and funding to small business credit education, building networks, achieving equity, and exploring small business opportunities, the event covered a wide range of critical issues.

Key Takeaways

  • Access to capital and funding was a central theme of the event, highlighting the challenges faced by underserved businesses in securing financial resources.

  • Small business credit education emerged as another crucial area of discussion, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and management for business success.

  • Building networks was identified as a key strategy for underserved entrepreneurs to connect with resources, mentors, and opportunities for growth.

  • Achieving equal equity was a recurring topic, underscoring the need for fair and inclusive policies that level the playing field for all businesses.

  • Small business opportunities were explored in-depth, offering insights into various avenues for entrepreneurial success.

Event Highlights

The two-hour event was packed with engaging discussions, insightful panels, and valuable networking opportunities. Attendees had the chance to interact with industry experts, share experiences, and gain practical advice to support their entrepreneurial journeys. For many attendees, including myself, it was a memorable experience stepping inside the Capitol for the first time and being part of history in the making.

Continuing the Commitment

While the kickoff event was a significant milestone, our commitment to supporting underserved businesses does not end there. It is an ongoing journey of advocacy, empowerment, and collaboration, aimed at creating lasting change in the black and brown communities.

Gratitude and Acknowledgments

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the panelists, attendees, and partners who contributed to the success of the event. Special gratitude goes to the Equitable Development Action (EDA) for the opportunity to collaborate and drive positive change in underserved communities.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes insights and updates from I Am My'My Jay as we continue our mission of empowerment and support for underserved entrepreneurs.
